- A person attending Day Care will have an incurable disease and they will be able to attend at any stage of their illness. This would include someone with inoperable cancer, chronic heart failure, end stage renal failure, AIDS, Multiple Sclerosis, or any other chronic disease.
- Hospice Day Care is currently provided each Friday at The Woldside Unit at Louth County Hospital in partnership with United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust.
- The Hospice Day Care service provides therapeutic and social care packages for patients, and support and information for their carers.
- The Hospice Day Care Team will work in partnership with GPs, District Nurses, Social Services and other agencies that are involved in a patient's care.
- Hospice Day Care is available on Friday each week between 9am and 5pm (excluding Bank Holidays).
- In addition to the Hospital Staff a number of Hospice Volunteers support the Day Care facility each week.
- The facilities are all free to the patients attending.
- In the forthcoming months a new Hospice Day Care Team will be established and all the staff will be employees of Louth & District Hospice Limited.
Services To Be Provided
- Specially trained staff who will work in partnership with patients and their carers to develop and agree a plan of care.
- Clinical interventions, such as dressings and injections.
- Individual and group support to enable patients to share their thoughts and feelings.
- A point of contact and support for patients, carers and family members.
- Creative and diversional activity, eg craftwork, short talks and demonstrations.
- Beauty and self care advice and treatments, eg hand massage, information sheets.
- A hot lunch with drinks and snacks as required – lunch is a shared occasion with staff and volunteers.
- Advice on benefits and allowances.
- A place to sit and relax - on comfortable reclining chairs if a patient wishes.
- Transport to and from the Hospice Day Care will be arranged if necessary.
In addition to these services it is possible for patients to have infusions and blood transfusions where clinically indicated and prescribed by members of United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust.

Referral Process
Anyone may refer a patient, for example District Nurse, Doctor, carer, family member of the patient - and the patient can always refer themselves.
